Nursing Homes are a place of residence for people in Maine who are in need of 24 hour nursing care. Nursing Homes in Maine are also referred to as Long Term Care,  Rehabilitation Centers or Skilled Nursing Centers. Although the majority of residents of Nursing Homes in Maine are seniors, they may also be home to some younger adults with disabilities.

Nursing Homes provide round the clock nursing care to assist Maine seniors with activities of daily living or rehabilitation after an illness or surgery. Nursing Homes also provide trained staff to assist patients with complex medication needs, injections or IV’s, catheters or ventilators or other more complex medical issues.

Rehabilitation Centers are the skilled nursing units of Nursing Homes that house Mainers who are recovering from an illness or surgery.  Maine seniors who go to Rehabilitation are usually there short term with an end goal of returning home or to assisted living.
