Maine State Music Theatre Looks Towards “Revival” Season with Free Teaser Tuesdays Film Series
BRUNSWICK, ME – In preparation for their 2022 summer season at the Pickard Theatre, Maine State Music Theatre will host four special Teaser Tuesdays films during the month of May at 6 PM at Brunswick’s Curtis Memorial Library’s Morrell Meeting Room at 23 Pleasant St, Brunswick, ME. The film series is free and open to the public.
Each screening includes a free showing of the movie version of a 2022 MSMT mainstage show followed by a talk-back by MSMT Artistic Director, Curt Dale Clark.
The series starts with the 1965 film version of The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plumber on MAY 3 at 6 PM. Based on the real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, Julie Andrews plays the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into their lives.
Next up is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat released in 2000 and starring Donny Osmond on MAY 10 at 6 PM. The Old Testament tale of Joseph and his coat of many colors gets a splashy, vigorous treatment with an energetic cast, Las Vegas-style glitz, and catchy, eclectic songs.
The third film is 1985’s The Color Purple starring Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey on MAY 17 at 6 PM. This epic tale spanning forty years in the life of an African-American woman living in the South, is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a striking celebration of life. Based on the novel by Alice Walker.
The series ends with Kinky Boots, the 2005 comedy/drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton on MAY 24 at 6 PM. After his father’s demise, Charlie Price inherits the family business, a shoe factory in Northampton, England, and finds inspiration in the form of a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos.
