Coats for Seniors is a Maine-based initiative to collect gently used adult winter coats for older Mainers in need. For each adult winter coat collected, Goodwill will provide the Area Agencies on Aging with a voucher to give to an older adult in need of a winter coat. This allows seniors to choose their own coats. LL Bean will also donate $5 per coat to support older adults who need fuel assistance.
Last year, there were 930 coats for seniors donated around the state.
There are several ways you can support Coats for Seniors! You can visit the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging website to find drop-off locations any time before November 21. You can attend the L.L. Bean Northern Lights Festival November 21-23 and drop off coats at the table in the lobby. And if you don’t have a warm coat to donate, feel free to make a financial donation (or give a gift in the name of a loved one.)
Please consider donating your gently used adult winter coats or making a financial gift to help keep older Mainers warm this winter!
Coats for Seniors is a State-wide Program
Each Area Agency on Aging in Maine collects coats at each of its offices. Between November 21-23, coats can also be brought to the L.L. Bean Flagship store at 95 Main Street in Freeport. Goodwill NNE collects the coats and brings them to the Goodwill stores in Maine.
In addition to donating coats, L.L. Bean generously gives $5 per collected coat to help older Mainers who need fuel assistance.
For every coat that is collected, Goodwill NNE provides the Area Agencies on Aging a voucher for a senior to come to a Goodwill stors and pick out a coat they like to keep them warm this winter.
