The SMAA Center for Agewell Programs offers three healthy living workshops. SMAA Agewell programs include:

Living Well for Better Health

Living Well for Better Health (Also known as Chronic Disease Self-Management) is a nationally recognized, award-winning program designed to empower you to become more active in managing your health. Living Well for Better Health is open to adults of all ages who have ongoing health problems or care for people who do. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are non-health professionals (referred to as lay leaders). Leaders often have chronic diseases themselves. Living Well Workshops teach you how to better handle pain and fatigue, tips for eating well, fun ways to get and stay active, skills on how to talk to your doctor and family about your health, and much more.

SMAA Agewell workshop sessions are 2 ½ hours long and meet once a week for six weeks.

Workshop cost: $10 per person

Materials cost: $20 per book, $15 per CD

A Matter of Balance

A Matter of Balance is a SMAA Agewell program designed to help older adults who have fallen, or have concerns or fears about falling. Participants find significant improvement regarding their level of falls management; falls control; level of exercise; and social limitations with regard to concern about falling. A Matter of Balance is more than just an exercise program; it is a complete look at the different aspects of falls. Just as participants learn gentle exercises to strengthen their bodies, they also learn about settings goals, changes that can be made to make their homes safer, as well as how our thoughts and pre-conceptions about falls can impact our stability and freedom.

Classes are 2 hours long and meet once a week for eight weeks.

Workshop cost: $20 per person

Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CPSMP)

There are lots of reasons why a person might experience chronic pain. If you’re dealing with pain then you know how hard it is to get proper care and to function on a daily basis. Theis SMAA AGewell program CPSMP helps provide participants with tools to help them manage pain better on a daily basis by discussing how to balance activity and rest, how what we eat impacts pain, how to deal with anger, sadness, and loss, communication and chronic pain… and so much more!

Workshop sessions are 2 ½ hours long and meet once a week for six weeks.

Workshop cost: CPSMP is a brand new workshop that we are offering. For our trial session we waived all workshop fees and asked participants to contribute $20 for the cost of the book used. Future cost TBD.
